Spread death through the streets, canals, and rooftops of 16th century Venice as Scarlett, the Daughter of Death. German-based studio Deck 13 is mixing what looks like some cartoonish gloss from Beyond Good & Evil with thematic and gameplay elements from Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.
The story has it that some foul necromancer is perverting nature in order to overcome death. Scarlett, regulator that she is, must do all manner of unnatural thing in order to put everything back in its place, including communicating with the dead and tactically shifting between our world and the Twilight World. (Expect to see this one vilified on Fox News.)
But Scarlett isnt the only character who can shift between normal and Twilight - apparently some followers of the necromancer can seem quite mundane when faced in the here-and-now, but then become hideous monstrosities jacked-up on the power of Death when later faced in the Twilight World. My only fear is that, due to the popularity of cuteness, these monstrous bosses may look more like Pixars Monsters Inc. than Clive Barkers Hellraiser.
Venetica will prove these fears groundless or true when it launches for Xbox 360 and PC sometime in 2009.
